The Tacachale District held its Cub Scout Day Camp in North Tampa from Tuesday June 1
to Saturday June 5. It was held at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Tampa, FL.
The camp began each day at 8:00 AM and ended at 4:00 PM. The theme for this Summer's Day
Camp was Cub Olympics. Scouts and adults from throughout the district helped
run the program again this year with Akela Mike Manka as the camp director.
We had a good turnout and an outstanding program was implemented even though the location
of the camp was changed at the last minute. The weather was hot with little rain until the
end of the week. Each scout had a active fun-filled week at camp.
Please let us know what you thought about your
camp experience.
The four groups of scouts were named the Red, Green, Yellow and Blue Teams after four of the
Olympic colors. The activities planned for each day included archery, BB gun marksmanship
and other athletic events. Other activities during the week included balloon pyramid
construction, playing various sports and running an obstacle and compass course.
The scouts built and raced regatta sailboats and they had fun making crafts and learning
to tie knots. They also learned some first aid and made a personal first aid kit.
The finale on Saturday included cheers, skits and songs by the four groups for the entertainment
of the many parents who attended. The winners of the regatta sailboat races and various
athletes from each team were awarded medals. A entertaining magic act was again provided by our
resident magician Daniel P. Fite for the delight and awe of the audience. Each scout
received a patch and a list of all the achievements they had earned during camp.
The camp activities concluded with the egg drop from the Imax theatre, which was won by the
Blue Team.
